A booklet of guidelines for transformative feminist support
After four years of implementation, the Feminists in Action project has supported 239 organizations through 265 grants, enabling the same number of projects to be carried out in 30 countries around the world. Beyond the awarding of grants, a support mechanism to empower the organizations supported was set up at the level of the various members of the consortium carrying out the project, which are CARE France, Oxfam France, the Fund for Women in the Mediterranean (FFMed), the Fund for Francophone Women (XOESE), the Pananetugri Initiative for Women’s Well-Being (IPBF) and Equipop. Far from being anecdotal, this support mechanism was at the heart of the FEA project and was capitalized on with the aim of examining the various support practices deployed by the consortium members. Under the supervision of Equipop, this capitalization resulted in the publication of a booklet entitled: “ Supporting the power of feminist organizations: Guidelines for feminist support.”
Why this booklet and for whom?
It provides a clear understanding of the specific characteristics of feminist organizations and the principles of an intermediary fund. In addition, it presents the key stages of support for feminist organizations and, for each key stage, recommendations are made for anyone responsible for supporting feminist organizations within the framework of intermediary funds. Furthermore, supporting feminist organizations is a process fraught with challenges, hence the importance of explaining the tensions inherent in this type of support in the booklet. The booklet does not stop there, however, but goes on to present courses of action and advice on how to deal with these tensions in order to build a lively, reflective, and dynamic relationship with feminist organizations. Finally, the booklet presents the seven dimensions of feminist organization empowerment that can be used to develop support pathways or to consider how to evaluate support for feminist organizations.
